Crew change is delayed,
Thanks to a streamer tangle
At least one extra day.

My GAFI is low
Even in the toilet,
But will get better.

It's not like I will
Have much of a break this time,
But now one less day

Things for me have been positively insane since I left home for this current hitch offshore. I'll try to remember everything from the past week and a bit without making this posting too hunk-a-huge.

The subject mentioned above is a statement that I from something  I was told airline pilots used to say as a radio message after getting overland on transatlantic flights. The actual quote I believe is "Our feet are dry."  Not being a transatlantic airline pilot, I don't know how true it currently may be, or even if it ever was a tradition. ( Read more... )

First helicopter is due in less than an hour. I am on the fourth. The weather is the most lovely we have seen for the whole trip. I will post more later, now there is much to do with last minute packing, preparing for my handover onboard and getting stuff ready for my office visit tomorrow morning.

I'll update more after I get to shore!

Just like the previous three trips, the week leading up to crew change day has a grim looking weather forecast. As I mentioned in my last post, I did indeed manage to get home notionally safe and sound. Despite having the helicopter pilot who first time out to the boat wet himself and went back to Rio, he did indeed land on the boat the second time even though the weather had been steadily worsening all day long. Helicopter number 3 just turned back because the boat was rolling too much. Chopper 4 has already left and if it lands, I will not be on it when it leaves. Unlikely previous crew changes when a helicopter didn't make it, off signing crew for chopper 3 will still be on the third chopper to land. Since I had to send my laptop to shore already, I have been using OWA to check my corporate email. Since it is unlikely that I will be getting any more work related emails tonight, I went ahead and logged out of Outlook Web Access. One of these days I will learn to quit looking at weather forecasts the week leading up to crew change!  With crew change due on Wednesday, even the optimistic weather guesser is calling for 5 meter seas all day on Wednesday.
